DMK MP and M Karunanidhi‘s daughter, Kanimozhi, and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar have moved Supreme Court for bail in the 2G spectrum case. This comes on a day when the DMK is holding its first high-level Action Committee meeting after Kanimozhi’s arrest and the recent poll drubbing.

We have filed a Special Leave Petition on behalf of both Kanimozhi and Kumar demanding the High Court order, senior advocate V G Pargasm said. The Delhi High Court had denied Kanimozhi bail on Wednesday saying there was enough prima facie evidence to propose her involvement in the 2G scam; she is currently lodged in the Tihar Jail.

Party chief M Karunanidhi is apparently annoyed over the arrest of his daughter and is balanced, according to some reports, to yank his six ministers from the UPA government. DMK has 18 Lok Sabha MPs and six ministers in the government - Dayanidhi Maran, MK Alagiri, S S Palanimanickam, Gandhiselvan, D Napolean and S Jagatrakshakan. If his minister do certainly quit, the party is likely to provide outside hold to the UPA.

Earlier this week, Karunanidhi publically credited his daughter’s arrest to the “orders or complacency of the Centre.CBI has charged Kanimozhi with accepting Rs. 214 crore as inducement down with former telecom minister A Raja who was arrested in February and is in Tihar Jail. Sharad Kumar co-owns a TV channel with Kanimozhi in Chennai.

Kanimozhi was arrested in May by the CBI, which is investigating the 2G scam, described as India‘s largest-ever swindle.
